new techniques and dye....

Special Effects dye in Hot Lava

After trying the combo of Pillarbox Red (Manic Panic) and Hot Lava. I decided just to try Hot Lava. I really enjoyed the color and did this for about 2 months. The color only lasted about two weeks and even started to fade before two weeks. So safe to say it was a love/hate relationship. I  loved the shade but hated having to dye it every 2-3 weeks. This was even with using a color depositing shampoo and adding some of the dye to my conditioner. So when I came across so many good things about Pravana Vivids I thought I had to try it. I purchased two boxes in the color red. Now, I have only heard good things about the dye and how long lasting and vibrant it was. At this point I was sick of dyeing my hair every 3 weeks so even though I loved the color Hot Lava was giving me I had to try it.

Pravana Vivids: Red

When I first took the dye off I was very disappointed. The color was very dark and almost purple. I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt since I know all stains darken the hair slightly since they have no lifting capabilities. These pictures are after about three washes. It did lighten up more, so I started to like the color better but I don't feel like it is as vibrant as Special Effects. I think you can  see that by looking at the ends of my hair. Well, I thought worst case I could just lighten my hair again color cleansing it.... nope... Pravana color can not be bleached out of the hair! That's right.. so if you are considering using this color please note it is pretty much permanent. The only thing you can do is wash your hair daily with a clarifying shampoo and wait for it to fade or dye over it a permanent more natural color and let it grow out. I am hoping once it fades more I can put my Special Effects dye over it and I will have more underlining red pigment so it won't fade as fast, or I was even thinking of doing L'oreal Highlift over it but I don't know how that will work.  I really wanted to like this dye... but I just don't.

Please,  if you have any suggestions let me know!
